Tasting at Christies in 1999.

1907, recovered from the Baltic in 1998, sunk during the war in 1916.

After we advised the salvage people on the recovery of this rare sweet Champagne en route to the Cossack regiments in Helsinki. We sold some 300 bottles. The wine at 60 mars depth with very high sea pressure, was still pale and had reasonable fizz. The flavours were extraordinary, complex nutty and very long, with the sweetness slightly subsided. Much was sold to Caviar House, and after a few months of being in their bars, lost fix and started to deteriorate.
